ALPFA Rutgers Newark
Who We Are
ALPFA is an organization that creates opportunities, adds value, and builds relationships for our members, our community, and our business partners. Our foundation is based on the values of culture, integrity, inclusivity, and professional development.
Moreover, ALPFA is the leading professional association dedicated to enhancing opportunities for all students in all business major fields. ALPFA National is a not-for-profit entity registered with the Internal Revenue Service and is the proud successor of the American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants (AAHCPA), the first national Latino professional association in the United States.
ALPFA Rutgers Newark is one of many student chapters across the nation.
What We Can Do For You!
At ALPFA Rutgers Newark, we work to build relationships that connect students with corporate professionals, foster an inclusive community, and provide streamline access to resources and opportunities.
We are dedicated to offering a range of professional development resources and event opportunities to our members. By being a part of the ALPFAmilia (a term coined to represent our members), students have access to top-notch networking events with leading industry experts and executives, along with a plethora of full time and internship opportunities to ensure you graduate college with a job secured. Being located minutes away from New York's business district provides students with unique opportunities to learn and grow in their chosen fields.
In addition to the career readiness ALPFA supports you with, we have created an environment that feels like home. Your ALPFAmilia is truly your family on campus and your biggest supporters as you navigate your career, especially as many of us are first-general college students. Part of our mission entails having a positive impact on our members and our communities, and we have done just that!

and it is the reason why most of joined to begin with.
Angie Munoz
President
ALPFA has helped me find myself in ways I never could have imagined. Prior to joining, I was incredibly reserved, lacked self-confidence, and believed that the opportunities I saw others achieving were simply out of reach for me. But ALPFA gave me a community that pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to build the skills and confidence I needed to reach my goals. My biggest accomplishments from my time with ALPFA aren't the internships, leadership positions, or programs. It is the personal growth I've experienced over the last two years. If it weren't for this organization, and the mentors and friends who consistently believed in me before I believed in myself, I would still be that fearful freshman who was holding herself back before even trying. ALPFA completely changed my perspective, and it continues to shape the person I am becoming every single day.
Derek Villavicencio
Vice President
ALPFA has impacted me by exposing me to a world I didn't know about. As a first-generation student, I had no knowledge of Corporate America, and it was because of ALPFA that I began to feel more comfortable in this environment. ALPFA connected me with people who became mentors and friends, and showed me that achieving your goals is possible if you believe and surround yourself with the right people. Now I have the mission to continue empowering the next generation of student leaders and to guide them at the beginning of their professional journey, just as others did with me.
William Marquez
Secretary
ALPFA has allowed me to gain the connections, both peer and professional, that have allowed me to be successful in my college career. My time in ALPFA has given me opportunities I would not be able to get anywhere else and I am grateful to be surrounded by the many hardworking and like minded people that are a part of this organization.
Amy Zavaleta
Treasurer
Being involved with ALPFA has been a meaningful and rewarding experience. The organization has provided me with opportunities to grow, build valuable relationships, and improve my professional skills. I have also enjoyed being part of a community of ambitious individuals who support and motivate one another. Overall, ALPFA has positively contributed to my personal, academic, and career development.
Jeremias Colon
VP of Technology
My experience with ALPFA has been extremely valuable. Through the organization, I have had the opportunity to develop professionally, connect with motivated students and industry professionals, and learn more about different career paths. ALPFA has helped me build confidence, strengthen my leadership and networking skills, and become better prepared for future opportunities. I am grateful to be part of a supportive community that encourages both personal and professional growth.
Jessica Velecela
VP of Community Outreach
ALPFA has impacted me in multiple ways, one of the biggest being how it pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to meet many other dedicated people. Without ALPFA, I would have continued being a non-social commuter whose only priority was attending class and heading straight back home. Through ALPFA's networking, volunteering, and professional development events, I have been able to meet incredible people, and it has opened many doors for me to connect with others within the industry. Most importantly, ALPFA has provided me with a loving and supportive community that has encouraged me to take initiative and become better every day.
Joshua Perez
VP of Member Relations
ALPFA surpasses the limitations of any singular campus or building. Personally, ALPFA and the individuals involved have given my social, academic, and professional life new meaning through events catered to its attendees' goals. There, I'm able to contribute to something greater than myself with like-minded individuals. Simply, it's more than a business organization; it's an opportunity to build unforgettable, genuine relationships.
Brenda Ramirez-Cortes
VP of Fundraising
Joining ALPFA has been a transformative experience; as a first generation college student, they introduced me to a community of like minded individuals with shared backgrounds and aligned goals which made me feel like I fit in. Within this supportive community, I found peers and mentors who constantly pushed me to grow and strive for excellence. Their unwavering encouragement gave me the strength to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new challenges. ALPFA's incredible network didn't just help me build my skills, it completely redefined what I believe I am capable of achieving.
Jayson Soza
VP of Professional Development
ALPFA has had a major impact on my growth both personally and professionally. It has given me a community of motivated students who push me to become better, while also exposing me to opportunities, professionals, and career paths I may not have fully understood before. Through ALPFA, I have been able to build my confidence, improve my networking skills, and learn more about what it takes to succeed in finance and business. Being involved has also helped me step into leadership, contribute to events, and support other members who are trying to grow just like me. Overall, ALPFA has made me more prepared, more connected, and more confident in the direction I want to take my career.
Jessica Silva
VP of Events
ALPFA has impacted me in ways I couldn't have imagined a year ago. Starting college, I wanted to find somewhere to be involved, but I never expected the outcome from today. I joined the Events committee and learned so much, gaining professional skills from workshops, panels, and our summit. ALPFA has brought me friends who I will cherish forever and who have made an immense impact in my life. Being on the committee furthered my organizational skills and even added to my determination, now being Vice President of Events. I am so excited to see what this year has in store for us!
Mayline Cedeno
VP of Marketing
ALPFA has had a tremendous impact on my personal and professional growth. When I transferred from community college over a year ago, I had very little knowledge about networking, building my resume, or navigating the professional world. As a general member, I connected with peers who guided me every step of the way. Through their support, I earned my first internship and gained the confidence to take on new opportunities. Today, I'm proud to serve as Vice President of Marketing, and I'm grateful for the community that believed in me and helped me grow into the leader I am today.
Juan Carlos Rosas
VP of Finance
ALPFA has impacted me by putting me in positions to advance my career I otherwise would have not had access to. It has changed my trajectory for my future in such a positive way through mentorship, professional development, and leadership.

Absolutely not! Our organization prides itself on its vast diversity, with 30% of our members hailing from non-Hispanic backgrounds. Any student of Rutgers-Newark, regardless of their race, creed, nationality, religion, etc. is encouraged to apply and become a part of the ALPFAmilia.
This is a common misconception that spawned from ALPFA originally standing for "American Latino Professions in Finance & Accounting." However, as time progressed, in 2010, the name was changed to "American Latino Professionals for America" to be more inclusive to professionals from all industries. Our organization is open to students of any major that wants to develop their leadership skills and professional development. We have partnered with numerous companies from various industries such as technology, consulting, marketing, etc.
One of the greatest assets to our organization is the existence of committees. Committees are subteams led by our Vice Presidents. A general member can apply to a committee to gain skills relevant to them as well as enhance their leadership skills. Being a committee member means assisting your Vice President in their duties established by ALPFA. Therefore, it is imperative for the member to be attentive to their VP's demands and always participate in the required meetings.
